169 BOATS PARTICIPATED IN THE

National Bank Easter Seals WAVES Regatta

$175,000 Raised for Vancouver

Easter Seals House

Vancouver, BC – There was sun, rain, and wind for last weekend’s National Bank Easter Seals WAVES Regatta at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club. One hundred & sixty-nine boats participated in the Keelboat and Dinghy weekend, and helped raise $175,000 for Vancouver Easter Seals House. Funds raised by the event support the day-to-day operations of this special place.

“We are deeply touched by the heart warming support of all the boat sponsors and boat skippers as well as the many spectators and volunteers who participated in this weekend’s event,” said Easter Seals President and CEO Stephen Miller. “Your efforts will go a long way in helping to provide support and comfort for children and their families who need to come to Vancouver for urgent medical care at Children’s Hospital.”

The Easter Seals Cup was awarded to ‘Catch Me’ from Pt. Roberts, skippered by Philip Cragg.  And once again, this year’s top fundraising sailor was Rick Reynolds, who raised $7,000 in boat sponsorships.

Other winners:

Second Place: No Worries                 Skippered by:  Dr. Michael Wainwright of Vancouver

Third Place: Occam’s Razor               Skippered by:  Vic Bishop/Rick Reynolds of West Vancouver

This event would not have been possible without its sponsors, including title sponsor National Bank.

“We are very proud to once again have the opportunity to support Easter Seals, and make a difference in the lives of children and their families,” said Steven Fleckenstein, Managing Director and head of Fixed Income, National Bank. “Our focus is on children’s well-being and the more we can do for them helps us fulfill our mandate to be good corporate citizens.”

Vancouver Easter Seals House, on Oak Street, has 49 rooms and provides a low cost, caring place to stay for more than 100 parents and children every night – totalling approximately 32,000 stays per year. It provides a place for families to stay when they are faced with medical trauma, needed treatment or surgery. Doors are open to every child, no matter what their medical condition including autism, cancer, leukemia, juvenile diabetes, and premature babies.

Event sponsors include Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, Pacific Yachting, Canadian Yachting West, CKNW, Global BC, BC Marine Trades Association, Mount Gay Rum, Okanagan Crush Pad, Steam Whistle, Helly Hansen, Cloverdale Paint, Caorda Web Solutions, Thrifty Foods, BBVancouver.com and Barnstorm Creative.
